The Engineering Place has provided innovative engineering programming to K-20 students and teachers across the state of North Carolina, the United States, and internationally. Since 1998, TEP has impacted over 1 million students, teachers, and parents.

Why The Engineering Place

At The Engineering Place, we believe every student deserves the opportunity to explore, create, and imagine themselves as problem-solvers and innovators.
As part of NC State University’s College of Engineering, The Engineering Place connects K–12 students, educators, and communities to hands-on engineering experiences that spark curiosity, build confidence, and open doors to future possibilities. From summer camps and classroom programs to professional learning for teachers, our work is rooted in one goal: making engineering accessible, engaging, and meaningful for all.
We don’t just introduce students to engineering, we help them see themselves as engineers. Through real-world challenges, collaborative learning, and exposure to NC State’s campus, students gain early insight into how engineering shapes the world around them and how they can be part of it.
Why it matters:
Early exposure to engineering builds critical thinking, creativity, and persistence, skills that serve students in any path they choose. Students are making decisions in elementary school regarding their STEM identity, and we want to ensure they know they belong in STEM and that they can make a difference in the world. By supporting teachers, engaging families, and partnering with schools and industry, The Engineering Place strengthens the entire K–12 engineering ecosystem across North Carolina and beyond.
