The College of Engineering plans and executes extensive summer programs for rising kindergarten through 12th-grade students each summer. From week-long day camps to residential stays, these programs introduce students to engineering through hands-on activities and problem-solving. Students spend the week with other like-minded peers and gain exposure to engineering, NC State, and university life.

Rising 1st – 5th Grade — Day Camps

Imagine Engineering Camp (rising 1st–2nd) and Imagine Engineering Camp I & II (rising 3rd–5th), plus a coding-focused alternative, Computer Science: Snap It, Craft It, Play It. Campers arrive 8:30–8:45am, tackle new engineering challenges each day in small teams, and present their designs before pickup at 3:30–3:45pm. $550/week including lunch; staff ratio ~1:8; limited financial aid available.

Rising 6th – 8th Grade — Day Camps

Imagine Engineering Camp I & II, plus two computer science options: AI Play (game design + artificial intelligence) and the new SECURE IT cybersecurity intro course. Same day-camp structure as elementary (8:30am drop-off, 3:30pm pickup, $550/week including lunch), staff ratio ~1:8.

Rising 9th – 10th Grade — Day Camps

Imagine Engineering Camp gives rising 9th and 10th graders a deeper look at engineering as a field and career path through a week of hands-on projects and group work. $550/week including lunch, staffed by area teachers and NC State students at roughly 1:8.

Rising 11th – 12th Grade — Residential Programs

A week living in university housing while going deep on one of thirteen-plus engineering disciplines — from Aerospace Engineering and Biomedical Engineering to Ecological Engineering and Data Analytics. Four one-week sessions run June–July each year. $1,550, meals and residence-hall supervision included (~1 counselor per 10 campers); Friday wraps with a parent showcase.

Each summer we hire a full camp staff. Teachers, graduate students, NC State undergraduates, and even qualified high schoolers, are hired to run our K-12 programs. It’s one of the best hands-on teaching and leadership experiences available to students on campus.
